Four Essential Roadmaps for the Transformation of Food Systems from Tetra Pak

Tetra Pak announced a comprehensive plan for the transformation of food systems within the framework of Food, Agriculture and Water Day, within the scope of the COP28 Climate Change Conference organized by the United Nations in the United Arab Emirates. The company has identified four basic roadmaps to accelerate the transition to sustainable and resilient food systems.

Leadership in the Transformation of Food Systems

Tetra Pak reinforced its leadership in the food processing and packaging industry with the strategic approach it put forward during the COP28 process. In this context, the company's Global Dairy Processing Working Group leadership also contributes to the Pathways to Dairy Net Zero initiative. Pointing out that food systems are responsible for 34% of global greenhouse gas emissions, Tetra Pak underlines that the private sector should play an active role in making these systems more efficient, durable and sustainable.

Food value chains are the second most critical area after energy in addressing climate change. As Tetra Pak, we do not just make promises, we implement a transformation plan based on scientific foundations.

Four Basic Roadmaps

2040 Vision with EY Parthenon Report

Tetra Pak, in the report prepared in collaboration with EY Parthenon, revealed the global food targets that need to be achieved by 2040. According to the report:

  • Worldwide hunger must be reduced to zero,
  • Malnutrition must be eliminated,
  • Consumers should be made aware of healthy and affordable food,
  • The ecological health of agricultural lands should be secured,
  • Food loss and waste should be reduced,
  • Greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced by more than half.

While the report emphasizes that these goals can only be achieved through collective action, it clearly demonstrates the contribution of Tetra Pak's four road maps to this process.
