Global Temperatures to Rise Above 1.5 Degrees Celsius for the First Time in 2024

07 May 2025

The European Union Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) pointed out that due to climate change, world temperatures have increased to levels that modern humans have never experienced before.

Scientists announced that global temperatures will exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius for the first time in 2024 compared to the pre-industrial period.

Confirming this important threshold, the European Union Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) pointed out that due to climate change, world temperatures have increased to levels that modern humans have never experienced before.

C3S Director Carlo Buontempo told Reuters that every month in 2024 will be the hottest or second hottest month since records began, and said, "This trend is incredible."

C3S announced that the world's average temperature in 2024 will be 1.6 degrees Celsius higher than in the "pre-industrial period" between 1850 and 1900, before the intensive use of fossil fuels.

Last year was the hottest year since records began, while each of the past ten years has been among the warmest on record.

The UK Met Office confirmed that 1.5 degrees Celsius could be exceeded in 2024 and predicted a slightly lower average temperature of 1.53 degrees Celsius. US scientists will announce climate data for 2024 today.
