30 Jun 2025

ÇEVKO Environmental Protection and Packaging Waste Evaluation Foundation and Rigid Plastic Packaging Manufacturers Association (SEPA) signed a strategic cooperation protocol on the recycling of plastic packaging waste. This collaboration aims to raise awareness in society to reduce hard plastic packaging waste in a sustainable system, collect it separately at the source and recycle it.

At the ceremony held at the Recovery Testing and Research Center (GETAM), which was established in cooperation with the ÇEVKO Foundation and Yıldız Technical University, the cooperation protocol was signed by Chairman of the Board of Directors Hakan Özhuy and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors Ali Fırat Özadam on behalf of SEPA, and on behalf of the ÇEVKO Foundation, Chairman of the Board of Directors Okyar Yayalar and Secretary General Mete İmer signed the cooperation protocol.

SEPA Chairman Hakan Özhuy said, "As the Rigid Plastic Packaging Manufacturers Association, we attach importance to the separate collection and recycling of packaging waste at the source. We believe that the cooperation between ÇEVKO Foundation and SEPA will be meaningful for social awareness."

Speaking at the signing ceremony, ÇEVKO Foundation Chairman Okyar Yayalar stated that this cooperation is an important step in terms of the integration of environmental responsibility into industrial policies. Yayalar said, "Recycling is not only an environmental issue, but also the cornerstone of economic sustainability. ÇEVKO Foundation and SEPA cooperation has great value in this respect."

ÇEVKO Foundation Secretary General Mete İmer said in his assessment, "In addition to its indisputable importance for the environment, recycling is also very important for reducing our country's external dependence on plastic raw materials and for the Turkish economy. Within the scope of important legislative changes around the world, it is necessary to develop policies on both the use of recycled materials in packaging and the trade of waste used as raw materials and to use domestic resources more efficiently. This protocol is an indicator of the power of industry and non-governmental cooperation to create an environmental impact in this important transformation."

After the protocol signature, Yıldız Technical University Rector Prof. Dr. SEPA and ÇEVKO Foundation delegations paid a courtesy visit to Eyüp Debik at his office, then visited GETAM together and observed the works on site.

Recycling Testing and Research Center is at the Service of SEPA Members

Within the scope of the protocol, ÇEVKO and SEPA will carry out joint studies on the recycling of plastic packaging waste with public authorities, business organizations and non-governmental organizations. Another important aspect of the cooperation is to introduce the Recovery Testing and Research Center (GETAM), which was established in cooperation with ÇEVKO Foundation and Yıldız Technical University, to SEPA members and to ensure that members benefit from this center. These studies aim to further deepen environmental awareness in the industry and create an important milestone on the path to sustainable development.
