Workshop with wide participation in cooperation with Turkish Informatics Association (TBD) and ÇEVKO Foundation Information Technologies for a Sustainable World

The "Environment and Natural Resources in the Digitalizing World: Zero Waste Management from Municipality, Consumer and Industry Perspective" workshop, organized within the scope of the 50th anniversary of the Turkish Informatics Association (TBD) and the 30th anniversary of the ÇEVKO Foundation, brought together local government, private sector and NGO officials. Making the opening speech of the workshop held online, ÇEVKO Foundation Secretary General Mete İmer said, "Information technologies play a key role in preventing the damage caused by humanity to the environment and achieving sustainable development goals."

ÇEVKO (Environmental Protection and Packaging Waste Evaluation) Foundation has been continuing its work with increasing momentum for 30 years, with the aim of developing the sustainable recycling system it pioneered and increasing the separate collection of packaging waste at the source. ÇEVKO Foundation, which brings together the identities of an expert industrial initiative and an active non-governmental organization, is among the organizations that provide intellectual leadership on Climate Change and Circular Economy, with the synergy of its knowledge, domestic and international relations, experienced human resources, private sector - public and local administrations - academic institutions and social collaborations.

The "Environment and Natural Resources in the Digitalizing World: Zero Waste Management from Municipality, Consumer and Industry Perspective" workshop, organized within the scope of the 30th anniversary of the ÇEVKO Foundation and the 50th anniversary of the Informatics Association of Turkey (TBD), brought together local government, private sector and NGO officials.

ÇEVKO Foundation Secretary General Mete İmer, who made the opening speech of the workshop held online, said, "Future generations will perhaps call the time after the Industrial Revolution the "Anthropocene Age" and the time after 1990 as the "Information Era". ... When we look at it with this awareness, information technologies play a key role in preventing the damage we cause to our environment in the Anthropocene Age and in achieving sustainable development goals."

Mete İmer continued his words as follows: "Sustainable development means continuing our development by taking into account environmental, economic and social dimensions. The way to achieve sustainable development today is through the circular economy. Circular economy, a new economic model, includes the processes of "sustainable production", "sustainable consumption" and "upcycling", which is an advanced application of recycling. ..."

ÇEVKO Foundation Information Technologies Manager Kaan Akyolcular, who spoke at the workshop, explained the relationship between the environment and information technology and gave information about the national Packaging Information System, which was established by the ÇEVKO Foundation for packaging waste management and later integrated with the ministry.

Providing information about the zero waste in industry software prepared by ÇEVKO, ÇEVKO Foundation Public Administration, External Relations and Projects Manager Alphan Eröztürk explained that the software includes digital waste map and situation analysis, compliance with legislation, multi-area management from a single platform, efficiency tracking, integration, reporting, cost analysis and economic benefit calculations.

In other speeches at the workshop, savings provided by software tested in industry and municipalities, measurement opportunities and mobile applications that increase citizen participation were introduced.
