Hayat Reduces Its Carbon Footprint with Renewable Energy Investments

Haya, which brings together 16 Turkish brands such as Bingo, Molped, Molfix, Bebem Natural, Papia, Focus, Familia, Evony, Gleen, Sholk with millions of consumers worldwide in the categories of home care, baby care, women's personal care, personal health, pet care and cleaning papers, both reduces its carbon footprint and provides added value to the country's economy by producing the energy itself in its Mersin and Kocaeli facilities.

As the first accredited company in Turkey with ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification, Hayat provides an average of 80 percent energy efficiency in its global production facilities, reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to the country's economy. Continuing its work in line with its twin transformation goals, which mean realizing green and digital transformation together, the company aims to be the most energy-efficient manufacturer in the sector by making improvements in line with energy efficiency in all its processes.

 

Produce on-site, consume on-site

 

Underlining that the company has undertaken an important mission in issues such as renewable energy, green and digital transformation with its pioneering sustainability practices, Hayat Energy Production Manager Serbay Tarakçı said, "As a global company originating from these lands, we handle our activities in a comprehensive and holistic manner. While increasing our production volume with the aim of adding value to the economy, we also attach importance to using resources efficiently and meeting our energy consumption with renewable solutions. With the Energy Committee we established within Hayat, we have created a serious awareness about energy efficiency to be applied in all business processes. In this way, we have created a serious awareness of energy efficiency from our project pool." We choose those with high energy efficiency and put them into practice. In order to ensure the sustainability of our operations, we took action to implement the principle of "produce on-site, consume on-site" in our facilities. We achieve this with our high-efficiency trigeneration facilities and solar energy system. Among the investments we put into operation this year is the "Mersin Factory Rooftop Solar Energy" system with a capacity of 14.6 MW. We aim to prevent approximately 9,600 tons of carbon emissions per year. "This means approximately 23 thousand 350 trees. On the other hand, we have commissioned our electricity production project by utilizing waste heat with an installed power of 75 kW. We produce Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) electricity thanks to the hot water we obtain from waste heat," he said.

Tarakçı continued his words by mentioning that the application in the Mersin facility is the largest capacity trigeneration and solar power plant investment under the same roof, and said:

 

"Our investment in our Mersin facility was a very important experience for us. We are transferring the experience we gained in this investment to our new facilities. Among our plans for the coming period is to increase the share of renewable energy in energy production. While making all these breakthroughs, we follow international regulations on carbon emissions and renew our plans in line with current developments. Energy is a sector with high costs and the need to be able to analyze the decisions you make instantly. Thanks to the energy software we use in life, you can instantly see Energy OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency - We can follow efficiency and cost analysis (Total Equipment Efficiency). Knowing that managing energy is as important as producing it, we will continue to reduce our carbon emissions in the future as well as today and contribute to a sustainable world with our renewable energy solutions.”
