Soyer: “This fair will create an awakening and awareness”
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer attended the introductory meeting of the "We-Cycle Environment and Recycling Technologies Fair". Mayor Soyer said, "I believe that this beautiful fair will bring about many collaborations and agreements, and will create an awakening and awareness in our country in areas such as recycling, renewable energy and waste management."
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer attended the introductory meeting of the "We-Cycle Environment and Recycling Technologies Fair" to be held for the first time between 12-14 May. At the introductory meeting of the fair to be hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and organized by İZFAŞ and EFOR Fuarcılık between 12-14 May, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mustafa Özuslu, Aegean Region Chamber of Industry Chairman of the Board of Directors Ender Yorgancılar, İzmir Chamber of Commerce Council President Selami Özpoyraz, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Secretary General Dr. Buğra Gökçe, İZFAŞ General Manager Canan Karaosmanoğlu Buyer, EFOR Fuarcılık General Manager Nuray Eyigele İşleyen and representatives of the recycling sector were also present.
Soyer: “We are creating a climate crisis”
Speaking at the meeting, Mayor Tunç Soyer stated that people are trying to dominate nature as if they were a power superior to nature and said, “We are creating the climate crisis. As a result, we, along with our world, get sick. We can actually get rid of this mental eclipse, this seemingly huge problem, by changing the way we think. Our We-Cycle Environment and Recycling Technologies Fair is a result of the concept of 'circular economy', which is an example of such a change of thought. We can only explain the value of the circular economy by reusing the waste generated as a result of consumption in production. That's why the We-Cycle Environment and Recycling Technologies Fair is a great opportunity for us. Many companies, such as the industry's leading recycling, renewable energy, waste water and pollution control companies, will take part in our fair. This fair, where waste management, zero waste projects, recycling technologies, environmentally friendly products and applications will be exhibited, is a product of circular thinking. "I believe that this beautiful fair will bring about many collaborations and agreements and, moreover, will create an awakening of awareness," he said.
“Only 10 percent is brought back into the economy”
Stating that the recycling industry provides employment for millions of people, Soyer said, “More than 700 thousand tons of waste with economic value is produced in Izmir every year, but only 10 percent of this waste is brought into the economy. We have to increase this rate not only from an environmental perspective, but also for the development of the economy. "Separation of domestic waste at the source and industrial symbiosis are our two main priorities to bring more waste into the economy in Izmir," he said.
Yorgancılar: “It is extremely important not only for Izmir but also for the world”
EBSO Chairman of the Board of Directors Ender Yorgancılar said, “Our İzmir, which created a brand with its international fair, is taking much more professional steps with Fuar İzmir. We-Cycle Environment and Recycling Technologies Fair is extremely important not only for Izmir but for the whole world. The world is changing and transforming, our resources are not unlimited. We must show maximum sensitivity to the resources we have. "We are going through a process where waste must be recycled and brought into the system," he said.
Özpoyraz: “I care very much”
Izmir Chamber of Commerce Council President Selami Özpoyraz said, “We are going through a process in which we borrow nature and all resources from future generations. I attach great importance to the contribution that We-Cycle Environment and Recycling Technologies Fair will make for future generations. As Izmir Chamber of Commerce, we have tried to provide all support and we will continue to do so. "We will continue our incentives," he said.
