Our Areas of Expertise
Every year, May 22 is celebrated as World Biodiversity Day to draw attention to the fact that biodiversity, which expresses the diversity of living species on Earth, has decreased due to many human-related reasons. Hayat Holding educates students about biodiversity with the 'We Care for Life' Ecological Literacy project, which it initiated to raise ecologically literate generations.
Due to climate change, pollution, habitat damage and many other reasons, the diversity of living things in the world is decreasing day by day and many living things are becoming extinct. The decrease in biodiversity, which ensures the functioning of ecosystems and is necessary for the survival of all living things in nature, disrupts the balance of the ecosystem, which leads to problems such as disruption of the food chain, climate change, decrease in energy and water resources, and the spread of diseases and pests.
One of the most important steps to say "stop" to the decrease in biodiversity is shown to be raising awareness in society about this issue and developing awareness of protecting nature. Raising ecologically literate individuals who are conscious and aware of not only biodiversity but also all natural events that disrupt the functioning of the ecosystem is the key to a sustainable future.
Hayat Holding raises ecologically literate generations
Ecological literacy is vital for understanding major environmental issues such as biodiversity decline, managing natural resources sustainably, and making environmentally responsible decisions. Based on this fact, Hayat Holding raises awareness of 3rd and 4th grade students and their families with educational content prepared by experts on "Biodiversity", "Climate Change" and "Sustainability", within the scope of the project it initiated to raise ecologically literate generations.
Emphasizing that biodiversity must be protected in order for the world and living creatures to continue their lives in a healthy way, Hayat Holding Global Corporate Communications and Sustainability Director Çağlayan Kent said, "We define biodiversity as the 'library of life'. There are approximately 2 million identified species living on the planet we live in today, apart from us. However, each species in this library of life is rapidly decreasing, and this threatens the functioning of the ecosystem. For example, the 'Bustard', the largest bird species of Türkiye, the Persian leopard." "Anatolian Leopard", which is a subspecies living in Anatolia, and "Inverted Tulip", which is found in cold climates, are just a few of them. In order to preserve the diversity of species in our life library and build a sustainable future, a common awareness must be created and we must raise generations with ecological sensitivity. As Hayat Holding, we use a powerful tool such as education and develop projects with the aim of creating a conscious society.
They learn about biodiversity through games
The "We Take Good Care of Life" Ecological Literacy Project, which sets out with the aim of explaining the importance of biodiversity, contributing to climate change awareness, drawing attention to the scarcity of resources on the planet, protecting resources and developing behaviors towards conscious consumption, aims to raise the awareness of children for a better world by educating them at an early age, with content in line with the curriculum enriched with games and visual activities. Emphasizing that it is the most efficient tool for children to learn ecological literacy topics through play according to their age, Çağlayan Kent said, "Training has started in all pilot provinces. We are very happy to receive feedback that our 3rd and 4th grade students enjoy the games in the module and their curiosity has increased. One of the games developed to help children understand the seasonal changes in plants is the 'My Tree, My Leaf' game. With this game played under the guidance of the teacher, children can examine the texture and shape of the leaves they collect from nature and "We believe that the most effective way for children to learn and internalize a subject quickly is through play," he said. "We will continue our work to raise ecologically literate generations in brand new cities in the new academic year."
