A 5% increase in global carbon emissions from fossil fuels is expected. The "Global Carbon Budget" report, prepared by the Global Carbon Project with researchers from the University of Exeter, University of East Anglia, CICERO Institute and Stanford University, was announced at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26). According to the report, carbon emissions from fossil fuels decreased by 5.4% compared to 2019 due to the restrictions imposed due to the epidemic last year. It is predicted that fossil fuel-related emissions will reach 36.4 billion tons at the end of this year, increasing by approximately 5% compared to last year and approaching the pre-pandemic level.

More than 40 countries have agreed to phase out coal-fired power. According to the agreement, countries with developed economies will phase out coal by 2030, and smaller economies by 2040. Among the countries that signed the agreement, there are countries such as Canada, Poland, Ukraine and Vietnam, where coal use is widespread. On the other hand, countries such as Australia, China, India and the USA, which are both coal-dependent and have developed economies, were excluded from the agreement. Türkiye also did not join the agreement.”
