Migros commissioned its new solar power plant in Kırşehir
Şevki Tuncer, General Manager of Migen Energy and Electric Vehicle Charge Services Inc., said, "We are taking determined steps towards our goal of reducing our carbon emissions by 42 percent by 2030 and reaching net zero emissions in 2050."
According to the statement made by the company, approximately 63 thousand bi-directional domestically produced solar panels were used in the power plant. The panels can utilize direct sunlight and energy reflected from the ground with maximum efficiency.
The facility, built with the latest technology components, will produce 56 thousand 280 megawatt hours (MWh) of energy alone annually. Following four rooftop solar power projects with a capacity of 11 thousand MWh that were previously commissioned, with this investment, the energy produced by Migros in its total solar power projects has reached the capacity to meet 10 percent of its annual energy need. Migros invested a total of 9.9 billion liras in 2024, including all SPP projects, including the TAS 29 inflation accounting effect.
Migen Enerji AŞ, a wholly owned subsidiary of Migros, offers end-to-end energy management services in the field of energy supply, energy efficiency solutions and renewable energy investments of Migros.
It will meet the energy needs of more than 600 stores
Şevki Tuncer, General Manager of Migen Energy and Electric Vehicle Şarj Hizmetleri AŞ, whose views were included in the statement, stated that they are an expert brand in multi-point consumption tracking, efficiency solutions and access to clean energy, including energy supply, with the 'Electricity Supply License' they received from EMRA at the end of 2024.
Tuncer emphasized that they met the energy needs of more than 600 Migros stores with clean energy sources with the first land solar energy system commissioned in Kırşehir and said, 'We have started working on new power plants that will produce a total of 97 thousand MWh of energy in four more provinces in 2025. We are taking determined steps towards our goal of reducing our carbon emissions by 42 percent by 2030 and reaching net zero emissions by 2050. Thanks to this facility, we will prevent 35 thousand tons of carbon emissions per year.' He said.
Tuncer noted that they have built an environmentally friendly ecosystem by investing in sustainable transportation solutions such as electric vehicle charging stations with Migen, and made the following evaluations:
'In order to meet the increasing demand with the widespread use of electric vehicles, we are installing charging stations in the parking lots of our stores with our Miggo Charging application. In this way, our customers have the opportunity to charge their vehicles while shopping at Migros stores. We aim to increase the number of electric vehicle charging stations, which is 67 at the end of 2024, to 150 in 2025. We will continue to expand our environmentally friendly energy projects in order to leave a cleaner world to the future.'
