Most European countries and countries as a whole still produce too much waste, according to a report published by the European Environment Agency on December 15. The report states that while the EU's waste production growth is lower than its economic growth, "more needs to be done to ensure real waste reductions in a growing economy." The report emphasizes that "there is no visible connection between the adoption of waste prevention programs by countries in 2013 and the amount of waste produced." The organization found a 5.2 percent increase in waste (excluding large mineral waste) between 2014 and 2018. The agency recommends introducing "strict quantitative prevention targets at EU level".
