ÇEVKO Foundation Announced its 2017 Environmental Benefit Report

29 Apr 2018

As ÇEVKO Foundation, we continue to contribute to environmental sustainability and the economy. As ÇEVKO Foundation, which has been pioneering a sustainable recycling system for 27 years and helping the industry fulfill its obligations, we contributed 2.6 billion TL to the country's economy last year with the recycling activities we carried out.

As an authorized organization, we have undertaken the recycling obligation of more than 1,800 organizations that put packaged products on the market, and on behalf of the producers and economic enterprises we represent, we are developing collaborations with local governments and licensed companies to collect packaging waste separately at the source. In addition, we organize communication, awareness and training activities. We have been operating for 27 years for the development of a sustainable recycling system. We cooperate with 162 municipalities in 30 provinces, where 26 million people live, in various regions of Turkey. As a result of the recycling activities we carried out, savings were achieved in fossil fuel, water and energy use. Less natural resources and energy were consumed. Recycling efforts made a positive contribution to the country's economy worth 2 billion six hundred million TL.

Recycling; It Protected the Air We Breathe and the Forests, and Saved Water and Energy

Economic and environmental benefits provided by the packaging waste that the ÇEVKO Foundation documented as recycling in 2017;

• By recycling paper, cardboard, wood and composite packaging waste, 4 million 715 thousand trees, corresponding to approximately 94 thousand decares of forest area, were saved from being cut down.
• Approximately 130 million liters of gasoline were saved by recycling plastic packaging waste. This is enough to fill the tanks of approximately 2.9 million vehicles.
• With the recycled paper-cardboard/composite packaging waste, approximately 7.3 billion liters of water were saved, equivalent to the annual water consumption of 41 thousand 505 families.
• With the recycled packaging waste, 2.7 billion kWh of electricity was saved, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of nearly one million (977 thousand) families.
• Storage of packaging waste. By recycling instead of burying in landfills, 3 million 645 thousand m3 of landfill space, approximately the volume of 1,457 Olympic swimming pools, was saved.
• Greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 339 thousand 700 tons of CO2, equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions released by an airplane circling the world 16,985 times, were prevented.
