The richest 1% of the world must reduce their emissions by 97% by 2030 to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees by 2030. According to a study conducted by Oxfam, based on research by the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and the Stockholm Environment Institute, in order to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees, per capita carbon emissions must be 2.3 tons per year on average by 2030. This figure currently corresponds to approximately half of the per capita emission level. On the other hand, it is calculated that the carbon footprint of the world's richest 1% will be 30 times higher than the Paris Agreement target of limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees in 2030. To reach a carbon footprint level compatible with the 1.5 degree target, a person from this wealthy segment would need to reduce their emissions by 97% by 2030. According to the details of the study, it is estimated that in 2030, the richest 1% will be responsible for 23% of emissions in China, 19% in the USA and 11% in India.
