In Antalya, Muratpaşa Municipality received the "Best Environmental Education Activities in Blue Flag" award for the 6th time in a row. Mayor Ümit Uysal said, "We are extremely happy that the steps we took to protect the environment during the pandemic period, when we changed our way of life and priorities, were deemed worthy of an award. We are receiving this award on behalf of our neighbors who are highly sensitive in the protection of our natural values."

Muratpaşa Municipality received the 'Best Environmental Education Activities' award for the 6th time in a row, given by the Turkish Environmental Education Foundation (TÜRÇEV) as a result of the evaluation of environmental education and information activities carried out every year within the scope of the Blue Flag program. The evaluation was made by a jury consisting of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ankara University Department of Educational Sciences, Gazi University Faculty of Education, Selçuk University Faculty of Tourism and Nature Conservation Center.

Vision Emphasis

In the meeting held online due to the pandemic, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality, Fethiye, Kuşadası and Alanya municipalities were deemed worthy of the award, along with Muratpaşa Municipality. TÜRÇEV President Rıza Tevfik Epikmen said, "I congratulate the award winners who understood the importance of environmental education and carried out their work with environmental awareness with this vision, without using the epidemic period as an excuse."

Muratpaşa Mayor Uysal, who succeeded in receiving the award for the 6th time in a row, stated that the Blue Flag program has an important place in the municipality's work towards the goal of a livable world and sustainable environment. Beaches Open

Mayor Uysal stated that the municipal beaches located at the point where Antalya's natural wonder cliffs meet the sea were entitled to receive the Blue Flag this year as well, and said that with the gradual normalization, the beaches are open between 07.00 in the morning and 20.00 in the morning.

Award-Winning Works

Muratpaşa Municipality carried out sea bottom cleaning and inventory work, zero waste training on beaches, cliff cleaning and workshops with various non-governmental organizations and sports clubs within the scope of the Blue Flag program in 2020, which was full of restrictions and bans. Various events were held on the occasion of 5 June World Environment Day, International Coastal Cleaning Day and 1 July Maritime and Cabotage Day. Muratpaşa also continued training for the protection of the endangered Mediterranean monk seal.
