The climate crisis affects every home and family around the world. Most consumers around the world now want the brands they buy to help them live more environmentally friendly lives. Scientific developments clearly reveal that urgent and decisive steps must be taken to avoid the negative effects of climate change.
Procter & Gamble (P&G), one of the world's largest personal care and cleaning products companies and the manufacturer of brands such as Fairy, Prima and Ariel, announced its goals to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, based on these expectations. Accordingly, the company will reduce emission rates by 50% in operations and 40% in the supply chain, with 2030 interim targets.
P&G Chairman and CEO David S. Taylor, who made a statement on the subject, said, "We are determined to use P&G's innovation power and creativity to find new solutions to climate change. The task ahead of us is urgent and much bigger than any company or country can achieve alone. As P&G, we are focusing our efforts in this direction on reducing our footprint and encouraging unprecedented collaboration in our scale value chain." Emphasizing that P&G's climate initiatives started more than 10 years ago and there is a lot of work to be done, Taylor said, "Our science-based plan for net zero will prioritize reducing most of our emissions in our operations and supply chain, from raw materials to retailers. We will use natural or technical solutions that extract and store carbon for emissions that cannot be eliminated in these categories."
Taylor continued: “We have joined the United Nations' Race to Zero and Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaigns and are sharing our new Climate Transition Action Plan, which outlines the challenges ahead with a comprehensive approach to accelerating climate action. Communicating our successes and challenges along the way. “Caring for our consumers and our planet is at the heart of our business for all of us at P&G. No action is too small, no vision is too big to achieve, as we work to preserve our common home for future generations.”
