Our Areas of Expertise
All malt and beer facilities of Anadolu Efes, which produces solutions for a more sustainable world with its Environmental Added Value Movement, in Turkey were entitled to receive a "Zero Waste Certificate". Anadolu Efes, which contributes to the circular economy by recycling approximately 10 thousand tons of waste annually in its facilities, also works on environmentally friendly and innovative solutions in product packaging and service delivery materials. Anadolu Efes, which transformed plastic festival cups into biodegradable cups for the first time in Turkey, also produced ice buckets from olive pits with the Biolive initiative it supports.
Within the scope of the Zero Waste Project initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Anadolu Efes' beer production facilities in Adana, Ankara and Izmir and malt production facilities in Konya and Afyon were entitled to receive a Zero Waste Certificate. With the Zero Waste Certificate, efficient and responsible resource use, management of waste at the source, reduction and recycling by separation activities have been documented.
Paper, plastic, metal and glass were recycled
When the data of the last two years are examined, approximately 10,500 tons of recyclable waste generated in the facilities annually was separated into types with more than 500 waste bins and sent to environmentally licensed recycling facilities.
Biodegradable cups will easily dissolve in nature
As a member of the Business World Plastic Initiative, Anadolu Efes works with universities, suppliers and the entrepreneurship ecosystem to develop environmentally friendly solutions in its packaging, service presentation materials, festival glasses and ice buckets. Anadolu Efes has a goal of reducing plastic usage, which is already at a low level of 1.1% in its ecosystem, to 0.5% within 3 years.
One of the products developed by Anadolu Efes within the scope of its efforts to prevent plastic consumption is biodegradable cups. Unlike plastic cups, which decompose in nature in 450 years, biodegradable cups decompose completely naturally in less than 2 years and leave no waste behind. Producing plastic cups at all events from biodegradable materials will prevent 45 tons of plastic from entering the nature annually.
Ice bucket from olive pits with Biolive
Working with the entrepreneurship ecosystem for service presentation materials, Anadolu Efes cooperates with the Biolive initiative, which produces completely natural bioplastic granules made from olive waste. As part of this work, he started using an ice bucket, 20% of which consists of olive pits. Anadolu Efes and Biolive continue their work to increase the proportion of olive seeds in the material.
Anadolu Efes' plastic-free efforts
As part of its efforts in this field, Anadolu Efes has made one of its brands completely plastic-free. The brand's plastic crates are recycled and prevented from entering the environment as waste. Within the scope of this study, plastic crates that are no longer functional are brought into daily life and are upcycled into items such as coffee tables, poufs and key chains.
'Our effort is to leave a livable world to future generations'
Anadolu Efes Turkey General Manager Tuğrul Ağırbaş said that all malt and beer facilities in Turkey are entitled to receive a Zero Waste Certificate, saying, "We are going through a period in which we continue to witness that every step we take has a significant impact on the future of our planet. As Anadolu Efes, we are a company that always prioritizes adding value to the environment. We contribute to the Development Goals set by the United Nations with the work we carry out. From the responsible use of natural resources to waste management, from reducing the use of plastic to a circular economy." "We are also one of the members of the Sustainable Development Association's Turkey Circular Economy Platform. We care about the growing waste management problem in the world and work for the sustainable protection of our resources. For this reason, we have registered our responsible production by obtaining the Zero Waste Certificate in our malt and beer production facilities in Turkey."
Stating that Anadolu Efes continues its work on plastic waste management within the framework of the Added Value to the Environment Movement, Ağırbaş said, "We carry out all these efforts with the awareness that the private sector has responsibilities to leave a livable world to future generations. Within the scope of our sustainability strategy, we are working to further reduce our environmental footprint every day." he said.
