Investment in Recycling from Tetra Pak

The partnership between Tetra Pak and Kahramanmaraş Kağıt Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., which started in 2016, continues to grow stronger with the granule facility that came into operation in 2021.

In cooperation with Tetra Pak and Kahramanmaraş Kağıt Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş (KMK), the first facility in Turkey to implement zero waste in beverage carton recycling was launched. The facility, which enables the recycling of all components of Tetra Pak cardboard boxes and was implemented with an investment of approximately 50 Million TL, has the capacity to recycle 18 thousand tons of cardboard per year.

In line with Tetra Pak sustainability vision, Kahramanmaraş Kağıt Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş., one of the most important recycling partners in the Middle East and Africa region. In cooperation with the company, it implemented the first facility in Turkey that implements zero waste in beverage carton recycling, with an investment of approximately 50 Million TL. At the press conference held in Kahramanmaraş, hosted by Tetra Pak Sustainability Middle East & Africa Regional Director Volkan Aydeniz and Key Holding and KMK Deputy Chairman Mahmut Ciğer, details about the facilities and processes that enable the recycling of all components of Tetra Pak cardboard boxes were shared.

In the recycling facility, where Tetra Pak boxes are separated within the framework of certain processes and the fibers are added to the paper production process, the remaining polyethylene and aluminum parts are obtained as granules and brought into the economy. Beverage carton waste, which is mainly recycled for the paper industry, is used as raw material in a wide range of products.

Tetra Pak Middle East & Africa Sustainability Regional Director Volkan Aydeniz said in his statement on the subject: "The period we live in has clearly demonstrated that our planet, society and economy cannot exist independently of each other. We all have very important duties for a sustainable future. As Tetra Pak, in line with this vision, we have launched our facility, which makes it possible to recycle all components of Tetra Pak cardboard boxes, with KMK, one of our most important recycling partners since 2016. Cardboard "We are happy to see our boxes turn into useful products that are a part of daily life. We want to increase these benefits for the future of both our country and our planet. For this reason, we will continue to play an active role in low-carbon circular economy and recycling initiatives. We will focus more on our regional and local efforts. Underlining that they have achieved a success story in line with Turkey's zero waste vision, Key Holding and KMK Deputy Chairman Mahmut Ciğer said, "This journey we have embarked on with the aim of transforming all cardboard packaging components into valuable final products with Tetra Pak has been exciting and inspiring; today, we are happy to have achieved this with our facility, which is a first in Turkey and a handful in the world.
