Unilever World Environment Day Message

"The climate crisis caused by global warming continues to affect the whole world. While the initiatives of states, business world and international organizations continue in line with the goal of 'reaching net zero' in 2050 as envisaged by the Paris Agreement, the speed of implementation of solutions lags behind the growth rate of the crisis we are experiencing.

As Unilever, one of the leading companies that take action in integrating sustainability into their operations and combating climate change, we say "Now is the time to accelerate" on June 5, World Environment Day, and invite everyone to take action 'quickly'.

Our sustainability journey is in its 15th year

We started our journey with the Sustainable Living Plan in 2010 with the belief that we, as the business world, should address the problems our world faces and be a stakeholder that produces solutions. While we made improvements in many areas during the process, we learned from the targets we could not meet.

In the second stage of our sustainability goals, we determined our "Sustainable Life Compass" and positioned our sustainability goals more intertwined with our business goals than ever before.

During the intervening time, we have achieved many of our goals and these achievements have brought great benefits to us. We have established more resilient supply chains, achieved significant cost savings in our operations, and realized transformations that touch lives with our brands.

We believe that we have now entered the third stage of our sustainability journey. We believe that the key to this new era is to grow and increase the impact created in the field of sustainability.

Our decades of experience in this field shows that we need to be more focused in our resource transfers and choices in order to develop concrete solutions to the large and complex problems we face.

For this purpose, we will use all our resources more focused in order to make progress in the areas of improving Climate, Nature, Plastic and Living Conditions, which we have determined as our main sustainability priorities.

As Unilever, our goal is to create a stronger and bigger impact in fewer areas where we believe we can make the most difference for sustainability. We are determined to achieve our goals and plan, as we have done so far. We passionately believe in the difference we will make in our business and many of our stakeholders."

More focused, faster, more systematic

Unilever Turkey Country President Ali Fuat Orhonoğlu states that Unilever has achieved significant success in sustainability in Turkey along with its world operations since 2010, and emphasizes that sustainability targets are not just words, and that the company is an example to the world in this respect:

"We made significant progress by launching the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan in 2010. With our nearly 15 years of sustainability experience, we have shown that a company can protect the world and provide positive benefits to society while growing profitably. We do not only look at the world through the balance sheet window. We act with the responsibility of how we can create more sustainable value with the awareness of our global responsibility, leaving a cleaner and more beautiful world to future generations. We include our suppliers, customers, employees and consumers in this strategy. What we are taking is We add value to both the environment and society with these steps. We always include our sustainability commitments in our business practices. We maintain our policies that prioritize innovation, reduce carbon footprint, and give importance to environmental and social issues.

Unilever acts in a line that directs the future, not waits for the future. We had set sail long before against the increasing challenges of the 21st century. The first period in our sustainability journey was mainly about sounding the alarm and setting long-term goals. In the second phase, we further integrated sustainability into business and value chains. Today, we want to accelerate even more and create a greater impact in fewer areas. Because the time of talking and worrying about the future of our world is over, we must all step up now. We want to be a pioneer in this regard once again with our renewed plan with more focus, acceleration and systemic change.”
