P&G Turkey Discovered Ways to Prevent Food Waste in Kitchens at the "The World is Our Home: Sustainable Tables with Refika Birgül" Event Organized with its Employees as part of April 22 Earth Day

P&G Turkey organized a special meeting for its employees within the scope of Earth Day events, with the participation of Food Writer and Chef Refika Birgül, who has been the ambassador of the No Waste Project carried out by Fairy since 2020 and drew attention to food waste in kitchens by preparing the 'Abundance' video series in cooperation with Fairy. It was also announced that P&G started a waste oil collection drive in the office as part of its recycling initiatives.

P&G Turkey, which continues its sustainability efforts to ensure a better quality of life for everyone, now and for future generations, discussed topics aimed at protecting our world, which is the only home for all of us, in its event organized within the scope of April 22 Earth Day. One of the guests of the event was Food Writer and Chef Refika Birgül, who has undertaken studies to reduce food waste in kitchens together with Fairy, P&G's leading dishwashing detergent brand. At the meeting titled "The World is Our Home: Sustainable Tables with Refika", P&G Office employees learned how to set up sustainable tables in our kitchens without creating food waste.

Reminding that Fairy launched the Waste Project in 2020 in cooperation with the Food Rescue Association in order to raise awareness about food waste and prevent waste, P&G Turkey, Caucasus and Central Asia Corporate Communications Director Nesli Kılıçal said, “With the Waste Project, we are working to prevent usable food from being wasted and deliver it to those in need. With the project, the logistics infrastructure of the association is strengthened with the new vehicle and equipment investment made by Fairy, and its aid capacity is monthly.” "We are also working to raise awareness about waste with our project, which has saved approximately 24,000 tons of food, equivalent to 75 million meals, since 2020. The Bereket Video series, which was launched in collaboration with Refika Birgül, who is the ambassador of our project, plays an important role in our aim to raise awareness about waste in the kitchen," he said.

Kılıçal stated that they hosted Refika Birgül at the P&G Office, who shared suggestions to prevent food waste in the kitchen, starting from grocery and market shopping with her videos, and said, "Refika Birgül, who informs her followers with the special contents she prepares, draws attention to the food that is wasted and thrown away with the videos she shoots. With the support of Fairy, which is the number 1 most preferred dishwashing detergent brand in Turkey, it further increases the value it offers with its products with the social benefits it creates." The video series published on the Youtube channel called 'Refika's Kitchen' also explains the ways to add abundance in the kitchens with the suggestions it offers. Our chef, whom we know for his sensitivity towards the environment and the steps he takes regarding sustainability, shared with P&G employees his knowledge that will make significant contributions to protecting our world, which is the only home for all of us. Refika sincerely answered our questions on everything from the work they have done so far within the scope of the Waste No Waste project, the importance of the concept of abundance, from the food that causes the most waste to the most abundant food. "We learned a lot from Birgül, from how to preserve the food we buy for a longer time to how to use what we cannot consume or what is too much," he said.

An important announcement was also made at the meeting, where the negative impact of waste oils on the environment and how these oils can be utilized without wasting them by pouring them into the trash or sink. Nesli Kılıçal, who announced that a waste oil collection station was established in the P&G office, said, "Dear P&G members, from now on, you can bring the oils that you no longer use or intend to throw to our collection point. Thanks to these oils that we will give to the municipality for recycling, we will all take another important step for the future together."
