Our Areas of Expertise
Announcing its 2023 Sustainability Progress Report, Sütaş is the strongest example in Turkey of the "European Union Green Deal - Farm to Fork" strategy, which envisages ensuring sustainability throughout the food chain, with the "Farm to Table" business model it has developed and implemented in its integrated facilities located all over Turkey.
Sütaş Sustainability Committee Chairman Duygu Yılmaz said, "With our Farm to Table business model, we increase our renewable energy production, operate in accordance with the principles of regenerative agriculture and sustainable dairy farming, use water and energy efficiently, and work with a zero waste target. With the renewable energy we obtain from the manures and organic waste of our farms in our biogas facilities, we have prevented carbon emissions that are three times the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from our production activities."
In this period when we feel the effects of global climate change more strongly, it becomes even more important for the agriculture and food sector to continue production with sustainable methods in order to ensure the food security of future generations.
Sütaş, which aims to ensure sustainability in the entire food chain with its "Farm to Table" integrated business model based on circularity, is the strongest example of the "European Union Green Deal - Farm to Fork" strategy in Turkey. Sütaş, which has been regularly sharing the sustainability reports it has prepared with the public since 2015, published the "2023 Sustainability Progress Report".
Sharing their sustainability efforts with the understanding of "From Farm to Table to Sustainable Tomorrow", Sütaş Sustainability Committee President Duygu Yılmaz stated that the fight against climate change has always been among their priorities. Yilmaz; "We are achieving important results with our biogas facilities, where we obtain electricity, steam and hot water by processing the fertilizers and organic wastes of our farms. In 2023, we increased our electricity production capacity from biogas to 20.2 MWh and our thermal energy production capacity to 19 MWh in our 4 integrated facilities. The electrical energy we produced in our biogas facilities reached a level equivalent to 88 percent of the electricity needs of all our production facilities. Thus, in 2023, we will be able to generate electricity from our own operations. "We have prevented the release of more than 3 times the greenhouse gas emissions caused by emissions (scope 1 and 2). In addition, we have achieved a 9 percent decrease in our emission intensity in 2023 compared to the previous year with efficiency projects, process optimizations and renewable energy investments," he said.
“WE CREATE VALUE FOR ALL SECTIONS OF SOCIETY”
Yılmaz said, "Our integrated business model and strategies, which take sustainability at their core, naturally enable us to contribute to the "health and happiness of individuals", "the development and welfare of society" and the "sustainability of the environment" and continued his words as follows:
"With our integrated facilities located all over Turkey, we continue to make significant contributions to rural development and create value for all segments of society, especially in the regions we operate in. We grow forage crops with a contractual production model so that our cows can be fed with natural and healthy feed; we support and enable our farmers to specialize in many matters, from soil preparation to appropriate seed selection, from the development of efficient irrigation systems to organic and organomineral fertilizer supply and harvest activities."
ENFAS2023 WAS A YEAR WITH SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS IN SUSTAINABILITY PERFORMANCE
Some of the data included in the 2023 sustainability report card of Sütaş, which increases renewable energy production, operates in accordance with the principles of regenerative agriculture and sustainable dairy farming, and works with a zero waste target, are as follows:
In addition to increasing crop yield, the organic structure of the soil was enriched and water and carbon retention capacity was increased.
