PepsiCo continues its work to combat climate change and for a sustainable food system

PepsiCo continues its efforts to build a sustainable food system while combating climate change with a focus on Positive Value Chain within the scope of pep+, the end-to-end transformation strategy it implemented last year. With this strategy, the company focuses on three main areas: Positive Agriculture, Positive Value Chain and Positive Options.

Referring to PepsiCo's efforts to combat climate change within the scope of April 22 Earth Day, PepsiCo Turkey General Manager Ece Aksel said, "In order to reduce the effects of climate change and build a sustainable food system, it is necessary to address the ecosystem as a whole. This can be possible by changing the end-to-end strategic thinking and way of doing business. I think a widespread impact can be created, at least by intersecting sectors taking responsibility, and I am hopeful for our future."

Türkiye is a leader in the use of recycled PET

Ece Aksel stated that they are committed to creating a circular and inclusive economy with the work they carry out in many areas such as 'Sustainable Packaging', 'Net Zero Emission' and 'Net Water Positive Target' under the title of PepsiCo's Positive Value Chain, and said: "As PepsiCo, we aim to reduce the amount of non-recycled plastic per portion in the food and beverage portfolio in our global operations by 2030. In addition, we aim to reduce the amount of non-recycled plastic in our packaging by 2025." "We continue our efforts to design 100% recyclable, compostable, biodegradable or reusable. As the Turkey business unit, we are already one of the leading companies in the use of recycled PET. Our 1-liter Pepsi, Yedigün and Fruko pet bottles in Turkey are produced from 100% recycled plastic," he said.

PepsiCo aims to achieve net zero emissions in its global operations by 2040 by transforming resource use as well as sustainable packaging. In this context, the company receives the most important contribution from renewable energy investments and has switched to 100% renewable electricity in all of its 6 factories in Turkey as of 2021. In line with its "Net Water Positive Target", PepsiCo aims to return more than 100% of the water used in high-risk regions to nature and reduce absolute water use by 2030. It managed to reduce food production by 18% and beverage production by 24%.
