Awareness Project for a Livable World from Koroplast

Koroplast, which is the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to garbage bags and kitchen auxiliary products and is Turkey's first choice, crowned the social responsibility activities it has supported since the day it was founded, with the motto "A Livable World is Easy Together" within the scope of its 40th anniversary last year. In this direction, within the scope of the "waste collection movement at 40 different points", the story book "The Girl Who Whispered the Birds" was implemented, which emphasizes the importance of recycling to children and instills environmental awareness.

The book "The Bird Whispering Girl", created by recycling waste collected from many different provinces of Turkey and written by the famous children's author Sara Şahinkanat in an educational, instructive and enjoyable language, was introduced with a special launch attended by a large number of guests. In the story book, which can also be accessed digitally via www.koroplast.com/donusumkahramanlari, it is explained through the experiences of a little girl named Kora and her friends that wastes that can harm nature and the environment can be recycled and reused.

Calling out to consumers with the motto "A Livable World is Easy Together", Koroplast has signed a corporate social responsibility project to instill environmental awareness, create habits and raise awareness on this issue by explaining the importance of recycling.

Koroplast, which has supported many social responsibility activities in terms of environmental cleaning and waste collection since the day it was founded, initiated the "waste collection movement at 40 different points" to explain that the majority of domestic waste is not "garbage" contrary to popular belief. Together with NGOs, municipalities and volunteers, 8,000 kg of waste was collected in 2 months from many provinces of Turkey with a total of 18,257 "Koroplast Recycling Bags", 80 percent of which were produced from recycled materials and can be recycled again, and were delivered to the recycling facilities of the relevant municipalities for separation and recycling. Koroplast recycled the collected waste and created the "Bird Whispering Girl" storybook for children.

The importance of environmental awareness and recycling is emphasized in the book "The Bird Whispering Girl", written by Sara Şahinkanat, one of Turkey's most famous children's writers, in an educational, instructive and enjoyable language and illustrated by Hüseyin Sönmezay; It is explained through a character named Kora that wastes that can harm nature and the environment can be recycled and reused.

Talking about Koroplast's corporate social responsibility activities at the launch of the story book "The Girl Who Whispered the Birds", Koroplast Marketing Director Gülsün Mersin said, "Since the day we were founded, we have always put being sensitive, transparent and ethical in the first place. We have never forgotten our responsibility towards society, nature and the environment. We primarily aimed for every social responsibility work we carry out to be long-term. At the same time, all volunteers and NGOs carry out projects and activities with the themes of sustainability, environmental cleanliness, nature protection and recycling." "We aim to create awareness in all segments of society, especially children, by saying 'A Livable World is Easy Together' and to raise awareness among consumers in all segments of the society. The outer covers of 1,000 copies of our book, which we printed, were produced from recycled paper, as well as special plastic covers and pages produced from the recycling of waste collected at 40 different points," he said.

Mersin said, "As Koroplast, we have made it our mission to shape the future with the awareness of responsibility towards society. In this direction, we started recycling trainings in schools with the guidance of TOÇEV. We aim to reach thousands of children in 20 schools by the end of the ongoing academic year, and we plan to continue environmental cleaning and recycling trainings next year. We will continue our projects with a growing voice under the umbrella of sustainability for many years. Our goals excite us about this."

Recycling training and recycling unit support in 20 schools as needed

Koroplast collaborated with ÇEVKO and TOÇEV within the scope of its social responsibility project. Using the recycling training contents prepared with the support of ÇEVKO, educational and instructive online trainings were prepared for children at primary education level with the contribution and guidance of TOÇEV.

With the trainings that started in Samsun and Çanakkale between 28 and 31 March, it is aimed to provide education to a total of 3,297 children in 10 schools. The trainings, which also use recycled content from the "The Girl Who Whispered the Birds" storybook, will continue in April and May, reaching thousands of children in a total of 20 schools. At the same time, the storybook, which children will both learn and enjoy while reading, will be distributed to schools through TOÇEV, and recycling unit support will be provided when needed to raise awareness. Koroplast plans to reach more children by increasing the number of schools in the 2022 - 2023 academic year.
