Green Dot

The Green Dot was first introduced in Germany between 1990 and 1991 to identify packages included in the separate collection system for packaging waste, known as the Green Dot System.

Green Dot
What Is It?

To promote its widespread use, the "Packaging Recovery Organization Europe (PRO Europe)" was established in 1995. Operating on a non-profit basis, PRO Europe grants the license to use the Green Dot symbol to national recycling systems — one authorized system per country.

The Green Dot has become an international symbol representing producer responsibility in packaging. When a product carries the Green Dot mark, it indicates that the company placing that packaged product on the market contributes financially to the recycling and recovery system.
