If Action is Not Taken in Global Waste Management, the Cost in 2050 May Increase to 640 Billion Dollars

The Global Waste Management Outlook 2024 report published by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) estimates that if no action is taken in global waste management, the cost of waste to human health, economies and the environment may reach 640 billion dollars annually in 2050.

According to the report, municipal solid waste production is predicted to increase from 2.3 billion tons in 2023 to 3.8 billion tons by 2050, while the direct and indirect annual cost of global waste management in 2020 is stated to be 361 billion dollars.
