MWE Tutum Belgesi: Döngüsel Ekonomide AB Plastik Stratejisi

Plastics have formed a key component of our 21st century economy and now constitute a major environmental problem. Plastic waste causes difficulties to resource and waste management as there are problems with lifespan, repairability, reusability and recyclability which need to be addressed, particularly with packaging, due to the diversity in plastic packaging materials and the number of plastic packages entering the waste stream on a daily basis. This puts a strain on collection systems and in countries without effective waste collection and treatment this plastic packaging all too easily becomes land and marine litter. In effect, plastic packaging in such a situation, even if technically recyclable, is not effectively recyclable because it does not reach a recycling plant. Other products such as synthetic textiles which lose microfibers in the wash, microbeads, oxo-degradable plastics, should be phased out as they have viable alternatives which do not create environmental damage.

ÇEVKO Foundation Will Continue With Its Educational Activities With The Support of The Ministry of National Education

As ÇEVKO Foundation, we will continue with our Trainer Training program, which has been going on since 2009, with the support of the Ministry of National Education in 2018. With the co-operation protocol signed between the Directorate General For Basic Education and ÇEVKO Foundation, the project will go on for 3 years and the activities will be carried out in 36 provinces.

Primarily, seminars will be held in the provinces to which one responsible teacher from every primary school will be sent; afterwards at their schools, these teachers will establish awareness of recycling, and carry out studies regarding the separate collection of packaging waste. Interior collection boxes will be placed in schools according to the number of classrooms.

Our aim is to create awareness of recycling in primary school students by providing them with educational books, informative films, and environmental education presentations prepared specially for them by our foundation.

For the first year we have targeted an estimated 82.000 students, whose knowledge on recycling will be consolidated through our musical play for children called "Recycling Will Do Us Good."

In his presentation, Eröztürk gave information on Waste Fetch Centers, which have existed abroad for quite some time but which are still new in Turkey. Eröztürk pointed out the importance of establishing  Waste Fetch Centers (WFC) and getting them to operate efficiently in order to decrease the cost of waste collecting, and improve the system, plus to enable municipalities to inform the consumers of their works on waste management. Eröztürk said, “In Europe, the WFCs are no longer just places to where waste is brought but they have become second hand markets for products of waste, and platforms to inform and train the community. In our country it has also become important for the success of the system to make the WFCs more attractive for the consumers by design items and certain arrangements.”

Representatives of various municipalities of İstanbul, association and foundation officials, and representatives of different institutions attending the meeting shared their works and experiences with the participants.
